Formal Complaint

Please treat this letter as a formal complaint about the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt.

Please treat this matter as confidential as my family are unaware I am a victim of child sex abuse by

Savile, all communications are to be made via the above email address only.

I was unfortunate to meet Savile aged 12 in an NHS hospital and suffered serious mental, sexual and physical abuse at his hands including witnessing him abuse a dead woman, I reported this to the police on 12 October 2012 prior to Savils interest in dead bodies becoming public.

After receiving notice on 03 November 2104 from my solicitor that my claim for compensation had been rejected, I recalled how the Secretary had made a statement to the House of Commons. The press reported;

•      Jeremy Hunt, the Health Secretary, apologises to people abused by Jimmy Savile in NHS institutions, as it emerges the former Top of the Pops presenter boasted of performing sex acts on dead bodies.

•      Mr Hunt said: “I want to apologise on behalf of the Government and the NHS to all the victims who were abused by Savile in NHS‐run institutions.”

•      "If we cannot undo the past, I hope that honesty and transparency about what happened can at least alleviate some of the suffering," Mr Hunt said in the House of Commons on Thursday. "It's the least we owe them."

•      “We let them down badly and however long ago it may have been, many of them are still reliving the pain they went through.”

•      Mr Hunt told the House of Commons there was a "deep sense of revulsion" at the findings, which "will shake this House and our country to the core".

•      He said people and institutions "turned a blind eye" and hoped honesty and transparency about what had happened could help to alleviate victims' suffering.

•      He described Savile's unfettered access to the hospitals as "one of the worst failures of public protection our country has ever seen"

•      "Savile was a callous, opportunistic, wicked predator who abused and raped individuals, many of them patients and young people who expected and had a right to expect to be safe," he said. "The family favourite loved by millions courted popularity and used it to perpetrate and cover up his own evil acts. I, and I'm sure the whole house will want to pay tribute to all the victims who came forward to talk about their experiences.

•      "It took great courage for them to relive their often extremely distressing and disturbing experiences. These reports paint a terrible picture as time and again victims were ignored or, if they were not, little or no action was taken. The systems in place to protect people were either to weak or were ignored. People and institutions turned a blind eye."

•      Mr Hunt, in response to a separate request from Mr Burnham, told MPs that victims would receive full access to counselling.

•      He also said compensation would be paid to victims out of the public purse if Savile's estate does not have enough money to cover the payments.

I wrote to the Secretary on 11 November 2014 to help him to better understand from a victim’s point of view just how difficult it has been for me as a victim and the consequences for my life. How difficult it was to finally come forward. The appalling way in which I was treated by the Police and NHS speaking out enquiry team. The failure to provide counselling and how disappointed I was by this outcome. I have received no reply. (See copy of letter attached).

On 24 November 2014 I received a copy of a solicitor’s letter which stated that it was the Secretary of State for Health that rejected my claim. In doing so the Secretary is effectively saying that despite what he said to the House, the fact that my original statement included facts that were not in the public domain and never having met me, he does not believe that I am a victim?

I wrote to the Secretary on 09 December advising him of the above fact and provided a copy of the solicitor’s letter. I requested a meeting to discuss how he had reached his decision without meeting me and have had no reply. (See copy of my letter attached).
